Abstract

The study aims to give an overview of the situation in India due to the COVID 19 pandemic, a brief introduction about the disease, its signs and symptoms followed by the clinical manifestations. It presents the several strategies adopted by the government of India to curb the disease, followed by the vaccination drive and the current scenario in India .The data has been collected from several scientific articles, conference, presentations and the data published by several ongoing researches, newspaper as well reliable websites of several organizations. COVID I9 is the ongoing pandemic caused by the virus SAARS COV2 also known as severe acute respiratory syndrome. The virus belongs to the class of CORONAVIRIDAE. The virus is known to cause mild to severe respiratory infections. The virus has RNA as its genetic material and is enveloped. They have 26 to 32 kb base pairs and reportedly had a zoonotic transmission. A detailed case study conducted by the World Health organization suggests that older people with underlying comorbid conditions such as diabetes, coronary artery disease, cancer etc. are more likely to be infected by the virus. The review includes information on the vaccines which are currently in their developmental stages as well as the ones which have been rolled out in India. The review aims to highlight the policies and strategies adopted by the Government of India to curb the rising number of cases such as wearing masks, using sanitizers and imposing strict lock down .Moreover the public health policy should be stringent to promote the well being of Indians.
