Abstract

This study looked at pregnant women's understanding and acceptance of the hepatitis virus (HPV) vaccine at a specialist hospital in Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The study was conducted using a facility-based cross-sectional design. Convenience Data was gathered using convenient basic random sample approaches and sampling procedures. SPSS 25 was used to analyze the data. The association between socio-demographic variables, knowledge of HBV, and factors related to hepatitis vaccination uptake among pregnant women was investigated using a chi-square test of independence, with findings reaching the 0.05 level of significance. In this study, 212 pregnant women were studied, with 55.7 percent having high knowledge, 36.3 percent having average knowledge, and 8.0 percent having low knowledge. A statistically significant link was discovered. There was a statistically significant link between HPV knowledge and age group (p = 0.027), occupation (p = 0.001), and level of education (p = 0.001). As a result, HPV vaccine uptake is associated with age (p = 0.000), occupation (p = 0.001), and educational level (p = 0.001). According to the findings, the majority of pregnant women who visit ANC at a specialist hospital in Jalingo, Taraba State, are aware of the HPV virus, but there is a poor uptake of the HPV vaccine among pregnant women. As a result, the study suggests that more public awareness campaigns about HPV's indications and symptoms, as well as its hazards and preventative measures, be launched. Similarly, the study recommends that pregnant women be sensitized to vaccines in order to increase vaccine uptake.
